Rev. Frank Gordon and Kyle Sullivan
The "Kyle T. Sullivan Memorial Cub Scout Award" and the "Rev. Frank Gordon Leadership Award" are annual awards presented to the Pack 219 Cub Scout of the Year and the Pack 219 Leader of the Year. What makes these awards special is that in order for someone to be considered for the award, they must first be nominated for the award by their peers. All nominations are then presented to a neutral committee comprised of members from our charter organization, Glen Alpine UMC and they select the most deserving recipients from the available pool of nominees. Competition is always tough and each year, the selection committee has struggled to come to a consensus from the list of applicants. The winners represent the best ideals of scouting and of giving service to others.
Rev. Frank Gordon
Rev. Frank Gordon is a life-long Scouter, Eagle Scout and former Pastor at Glen Alpine UMC. Under his guidance, Pack 219 established itself as one of the premier scouting units in Western North Carolina. Rev. Frank Gordon left a lasting imprint on Pack 219's program that continues to this day. His high standards continue to set the benchmarks that define our program. Rev. Frank and his wife, Rev. Mary Gordon currently live in the Canton, NC area.
Kyle Sullivan
Kyle Sullivan is a former Pack 219 Cub Scout who rose through the ranks of Cub Scouting and went on to Boy Scouts. Kyle tragically died in a swimming accident in 2006. He was thought of very fondly by the scouts and leaders at Pack 219 and the Kyle Sullivan Memorial Cub Scout Award was established in his honor to recognize the Pack 219 Cub Scout of the Year. Kyle loved scouting and he lived by the scouting ideals. It is very fitting that we honor our best in his memory.
